The Indian Air Force (IAF) achieved a monumental aviation milestone by successfully landing a massive Ilyushin IL-76 heavy-lift transport aircraft at the advanced landing ground in Nyoma, eastern Ladakh. Situated at a daunting altitude of 13,629 feet, this operation sets a global record for the highest landing ever executed by an aircraft of this scale.

The strategic airfield, located near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), has been undergoing extensive upgrades to handle heavy machinery. Defence officials noted that the successful touchdown demonstrates the IAF’s enhanced capabilities to rapidly deploy troops, heavy armor, and critical supplies to remote, high-altitude border regions during emergencies, significantly boosting India’s forward military preparedness.
